The OPS Health Educator promotes, maintains, and improves individual and/or community health and safety by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors. Conducts educational classes and/or presentations to targeted audiences related to such topics as safety and drowning prevention. Assists with class scheduling, supply, and inventory management and planning activities. Prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials. Maintains daily class records as well as personal time records. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The ability to perform multiple swim strokes at an intermediate to advanced level, and to teach these skills to others at varying levels and ages using American Red Cross guidelines.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with people of different ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to perform water rescue skills and CPR in accordance with the American Red Cross Lifeguard training guidelines.
  • Good listening ability
  • Skills at oral and written communications
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize & organize work assignments and work independently
  • Active listening skills, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.

 

Qualifications:

  • Can swim at an intermediate to advanced level

 

Other job-related requirements for this position:

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
