Job Description

Position Title: Maintenance Mechanic

Employment Type: Direct Hire, W2 - no C2C at this time.

Location: Elkhart, Indiana

Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000

Position Overview

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on facility systems, production machinery, and building infrastructure. This role supports the Maintenance Lead in ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and reliability of all mechanical and electrical systems within the facility. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who can work independently, follow established safety standards, and keep accurate maintenance records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on production and facility equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on machinery.
  • Conduct facility inspections to identify potential safety or operational hazards and take corrective action.
  • Support accident and incident investigations by providing documentation and technical insight as required.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, records, and inventory of tools, parts, and supplies.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including reading and interpreting basic electrical schematics.
  • Perform fabrication, welding (MIG, TIG, and Stick), and light construction as needed.
  • Install, relocate, and rig machinery or fixtures safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with facility upkeep, including painting, carpentry, filter changes, and general repairs.
  • Recommend equipment modifications, upgrades, or process improvements to increase safety and performance.
  • Operate shop machinery such as lathes, grinders, and mills.
  • Maintain a clean and organized maintenance work area.
  • Follow all OSHA and company safety policies, including proper use of PPE, Lockout/Tagout, and safe lifting practices.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, production teams, and vendors to coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Work a standard 40-hour week (Monday-Friday) with potential overtime and occasional Saturday shifts.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or vocational training in maintenance or a related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in equipment troubleshooting and repair.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and work order systems.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and work safely in an active manufacturing setting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; bilingual proficiency a plus.
  • Proven ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks under minimal supervision.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with machine installation, rigging, and alignment.
  • Working knowledge of electrical control systems and schematics.
  • Previous experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Prior safety training in Lockout/Tagout, electrical safety, and hazard awareness.

Work Environment

This position operates in a manufacturing environment and requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods. The role involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, moderate noise, and occasional outdoor work.
