Location: Walled Lake, Michigan

Employment Type: Full-Time / Contract

Start Date: As soon as possible for the 2025-2026 school year

Position Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist will provide direct and consultative services to students with speech, language, and communication challenges. This role involves assessment, intervention, documentation, and collaboration with families, teachers, and other professionals to support student success in both general and special education settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations for students based on referrals and screening results.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) and related speech-language goals.
  • Provide direct therapy services — individual and group — to students with expressive, receptive, pragmatic, fluency, voice, articulation, and/or AAC (augmentative/alternative communication) needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, families and external agencies to integrate speech-language goals across environments.
  • Participate in IEP/IEP team meetings, multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) efforts, pre-referral interventions and progress monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, service delivery, progress, and required compliance records (e.g., state and federal special education regulations).
  • Use data to adjust intervention plans and contribute to program improvement initiatives consistent with current research and best practices.
  • Provide professional learning and support to staff regarding speech-language strategies, assistive technology, and communication supports.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for carryover.
  • Uphold district policies, state licensure requirements, and ethical standards of practice.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders.
  • Valid Michigan license in Speech-Language Pathology or appropriate teaching certificate with Speech/Language (Impaired) endorsement.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evaluation methods, intervention strategies, assistive/augmentative communication systems and evidence-based practices for children.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively in a school-based team setting.
  • Experience (or strong aptitude) working with children and youth in educational settings from early childhood through transition age.
  • Familiarity with state and federal mandates pertaining to special education, IEP processes and inclusive services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in school settings with diverse student populations.
  • Familiarity with MTSS frameworks and classroom-based consultation models.
  • Experience with Augmentative/Alternative Communication (AAC) systems and assistive technology.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills a plus.
