  • San Antonio, TX

Job Description

Office Location: San Antonio, TX, USA.

Position Type: Full-Time

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Direct Reports: Head of Rancher Sales and Rancher Sales Managers (currently a 5-person team)

The Opportunity

Grassroots Carbon is seeking a relentless and strategic leader to serve as Chief Growth Officer, US Grasslands. This newly created executive role will drive the growth and enrollment engine that powers our mission. The Chief Growth Officer will be responsible for rapidly expanding our rancher and acreage base, strengthening partnerships with land stewards, and ensuring we deliver the carbon supply needed to achieve our ambitious goals.

Our mission is bold. We are expanding from 1.5 million acres enrolled today to more than 50 million acres by 2030. To get there, we need a leader who combines vision, grit, and execution. This role offers a rare chance to lead a high-performing team at the intersection of climate impact, agriculture, and ecosystem restoration. The outcomes will be real and measurable: millions of tons of carbon stored in healthy soils and millions of acres of U.S. grasslands restored.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the national rancher growth strategy to scale regenerative grazing across millions of acres of U.S. grasslands.
  • Lead, build and manage a top-performing field team which currently includes Head of Rancher Sales and Rancher Sales Managers (currently a 5-person team)
  • Establish a performance-driven culture through clear targets, real-time tracking, coaching, and accountability that spans national strategy down to regional enrollment metrics.
  • Design and implement scalable systems and analytics to monitor acreage growth, pipeline velocity, conversion rates, and referral partner performance.
  • Set and manage performance targets that balance growth velocity with contractual quality.
  • Source and activate value-aligned referral and enrollment partners, from conservation organizations and producer networks to local co-ops and trusted ranching voices.
  • Refine and oversee our go-to-market playbook for regional expansion and top-of-funnel rancher engagement.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, product, science, and corporate sales teams to align supply with demand and ensure delivery of verifiable carbon outcomes.
  • Represent the voice of the land steward at the executive table, ensuring every touchpoint builds trust and delivers value to our ranching partners.
  • Travel to meet with ranchers, attend industry events, and support regional teams.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in executive leadership roles in growth, sales, partnerships, or territory expansion. A background in agriculture, sustainability, manufacturing or land-based industries is preferred but not required.
  • Proven success building and leading distributed, high-performance teams with measurable results.
  • Deep understanding of sales funnels, KPIs, and field operations; comfortable managing both revenue goals and acreage outcomes.
  • Analytical mindset and systems thinking. The ideal candidate is able to use data to make decisions, manage pipeline health, and scale predictably.
  • Exceptional communicator and people leader, capable of aligning diverse teams around shared goals.
  • Mission-aligned with a deep respect for ranchers, landowners, and regenerative agriculture.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and spend time in the field with our team and ranching partners.
  • While this is a San Antonio-based position, the ideal candidate is willing to travel within the United States as needed (~10%)

What We’ll Expect You to Demonstrate

The right candidate for this role will bring a proven record of scaling growth at pace and at scale. During the interview process, we will expect you to share specific, measurable examples that show how you have delivered real impact, built high-performing teams, and created systems that drive results.

We will look for evidence of:

  • Scaling a business unit, territory, or acreage base from early stage to significant growth with clear KPIs and outcomes
  • Building and leading high-performing teams, including how you recruited, developed, and created a culture of accountability and results
  • Activating referral networks, aligned organizations, or partnerships to multiply growth beyond direct sales efforts
  • Applying data, analytics, and systems to identify bottlenecks, improve pipeline velocity, and strengthen forecasting discipline

This is an opportunity for a high-energy, relentless, and results-driven leader who can prove with data, examples, and outcomes that they know how to build and scale growth at the highest level.
